Obituary

Catherine Diane (Mailman) Mac Donnell

February 27, 1966 - August 23, 2023

On August 23, 2023, surrounded by her family, Cathy passed away at the Fort St. John BC Hospital from complications resulting from ovarian cancer.

Cathy was the oldest daughter of Truman and Annie Mailman of Liscomb, Nova Scotia. She was the oldest of three, with a sister Lisa Mailman (Warren Wageman) Grande Prairie AB, and her brother Steven Mailman.

Cathy started a new life relocating her and her children from a previous marriage from New Glasgow, NS to Fort St John, BC where she joined her soon to be husband, Edison Mac Donnell (formerly Judique, NS).

Cathy is survived by her husband of 23 years and her children Melanie Grover (David Hidber) Grande Prairie AB, Morgan Grover (Amber), and Matthew Grover of Fort St John BC.  They provided her with 6 grandchildren all of whom she adored. She was a hard worker, enjoyed movies, books (Daniel Steel novels) and had the crafting bug. She enjoyed activities such as cross stitching, painting, diamond painting, patch quilting and resin craft. Once the children were of age, Cathy decided she wanted to travel and picked up a liking for cruising. Her husband, who reluctantly had to admit that she was right about cruising, enjoyed the adventures she meticulously planned.

Cathy also enjoyed camping with their RV with friends at local RV parks, not traveling too far away but far enough to be enjoying the outdoors. Anyone who knew Cathy knew she loved plants. Not always the greenest thumb, but she could never leave a plant abandoned. At one time Cathy had over 50 plants that she enjoyed.

Cathy, deciding she needed another job, started her own cleaning company. With support of her husband they started EC Breezy Janitorial Ltd., and with Cathy’s hard work and desire to provide a quality service, created a successful business.

Funeral arrangements will be with the Hamres Funeral Chapel & Cremation Center with a celebration of life ceremony to be held on September 13, 2023 from 1-5 pm at the Lido Theater of Fort St John BC.

Cathy is preceded by her father Truman, mother Annie, and brother Steven and as per her wishes, will be cremated and placed to rest alongside of them at the Saint Lukes Anglican Cemetery, Liscomb NS.
