Obituary

It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Helene Loewen at the Fort St. John General Hospital on July 18, 2023 at the age of 79 years.

On May 7, 1945, Helene Formaniuk was born in St. Paul's, Manitoba, the daughter of Harry Formaniuk and Elsie Wychristie.  Helene was the first daughter in a family of six children - four brothers, Michael Formaniuk (deceased), Ronald Formaniuk (deceased), Stephan Formaniuk, and Harry Formaniuk, and one younger sister, Katherine Formaniuk (deceased).  Helene grew up on a farm outside of Winnipeg in the farming community of Rivercrest, Manitoba.  When she graduated grade 12, she advanced into nursing college where she met Dad on campus at a party. Dad fell right into her lap doing the limbo and they both fell for each other ~ it was love at first sight.  Helene and Kenneth Loewen married on November 16, 1963 and they had four children, Kevin Loewen (deceased), Kimberly Bramhill, Corinne (Neil) Alexander, and Lianna Loewen.  Helene and Ken moved to several places in Manitoba during their marriage before moving from Manitoba to Fort St. John, BC.  There, they continued to raise their three children.  Helene was a great partner for Ken in that they both kept the family going even though they both had full-time employment outside of the home.  Even with Mom and Dad being so busy, they sill had time for the children and their families.  Ken and Helene were married for 47 years before Ken passed away on February 1, 2009.

Helene will be missed by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and brothers, as well as many nieces, nephews and their families.

Helene was predeceased by her parents, beloved husband Ken, son Kevin, brothers Michael and Ronald, and sister Katherine.

The family wishes to thank the nurses, doctors, and her at home private nurse for the kindness and help Mom received at the FSJ General Hospital, as well as Northern Health for their ongoing support over the past several years.  Thank you to Pastor Laurie Goertzen for being there for Mom and the family in their time of need.  A heartfelt thank you to all of you who sent your love, hugs, and emotional support via phone calls and FB and text messages in these past few days.

Thank you Mom for all your love, support, and the great times we have shared together.  You will be deeply missed!

Cry not for me, my heart is light, my soul is free.  For all eternity my pain is gone.  Cry not for me, I've loved you each and every one.  I love you still.  Rest in Peace, Mom.

A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, July 25, 2023 at 2:00 pm at Hamre's Funeral Chapel with an Interment to follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.  Please join the family for a tea at the Fort St. John Royal Canadian Legion from 4:00 - 6:00 pm.
