Ione Snyder

Ione Martha Janice Snyder 

June 20, 1934- August 18, 2023 

lone passed  away at the Fort St. John Hospital on Aug. 18, 2023. She was the fourth child of Jean and Hartley Peever. lone was born in Kinistino, Saskatchewan and as an infant, her family moved to Montney, B.C. to start a homestead. She grew up going to Crystal Springs school.                                    

As a young woman, lone worked at the FSJ hospital, Odermatt's ice cream shop and waitressed at the Fort Hotel, where she met Gordon Snyder. They married on Oct. 12, 1956. Krystal was born in 1958 and Tawnya in 1963. lone and Gordon settled in Wonowon (Mile 101 Alaska Highway) and raised their family, where lone worked on and off at the local truck stop restaurants. 

lone enjoyed doing hair and she was the hairdresser for many friends in Wonowon.  When Gordon and lone moved to Charlie Lake, lone continued doing hair, volunteering for approximately 20 years at Peace  Villa and other care facilities. 

lone enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren. They were the light of her life. 

lone will be remembered for her dedication to her family and friends, always looking her best and enjoying a good laugh. 

lone is survived by her husband of 66 plus years, Gordon Snyder, daughters Krystal Germain (Lisle), Tawnya Francoeur (Danny), granddaughters Bryana Gordon (Myla), Ebonie McNeill (Greg), Karlie Germain (Kevin), great grandsons Kaelen and Kai, brothers Tom Peever (Susan) and Bobby Peever, and numerous nieces and nephew. 

lone is predeceased by her mother  and father Jean and Hartley Peever, brothers Billy and Merrill Peever, sister Inez Hofstrand, nephew Jim Peever, niece Sharlene Peever, and niece Jeanine Colley.

A celebration of life will take place at the Montney Community Hall on Saturday, September 2, 2023 at 1:00 pm.  Lunch will be provided following the service.

In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations to the Montney Cemetery.
